day 11, mile 450.2, westernaire motel, Mesa, AZ

We got off too late to make it out of the Phoenix-Mega-Tropolis-Area. The Westernaire is really nice. And cheap. We're watching Rear Window! Big miles tomorrow!

Drove around all day, getting lost. Went to the Apple Store(!) Saw, curse of the were-rabbit at glendale drive-in. Try to get back on our squirrely metal steeds tomorrow.

is this where we'll camp? Stay tuned...

Thank You.

Somebody, contact the person in charge. Tell them that, if this shoulder isn't fixed in 5 minutes, i'm going to kill someone. Probably myself.

day 5, mile 169.9, in back of long-term visitor area off I-8, CA

Wow, what a weird day. Remember those impressive numbers i gave you earlier? Well, they were shot in el centro, as we meandered about, re-supplying, eating. At our last stop, the bike shop, the guy convinced us we should take a different route into arizona - shorter, easier, better roads. So far so good, but we barely made it out of the farmlands before dark and had no idea where we were going to sleep. Just as it was getting dark, we came to this mysterious long term visitor area, where, the man said, we can't camp, but if we go 2 miles on the dirt road behind it, we can camp legal and FREE. And there is a hot spring for bathing! Upon further reflection, it's hard to really say why it was a weird day. P.S. I TYPED ALL THIS ON A PHONE! WEIRD!

hay, we finally made it out of el centro!

hay, we're in seeley

It's 9am and we've gone 17 miles, ridden on our worst rode yet (Drew Rd!), and eaten cookies and coke for breakfast #1.

After 57 miles today, katie wanted to do 20 more. But i said, please, let us stop - even if it means we sleep right here, on the side of the road, in the middle of this god forsaken desert. And we did.

welcome to yuha desert
